Day One
Katelyn usually watches a movie in the morning so I knew she would be sitting on the couch, which is not the best place for her first accident. It made me so nervous to have her only wearing training pants so I had her sit on a waterproof pad while she watched her movie. Thirty minutes later she comes to me and seems upset that she had wet herself. I explain that she needs to use the potty and put on a new pair of panties. After her second accident she was even more upset and asked for her diaper. I tried to have her outside for awhile so the clean up would be easy but of course she has no accidents outside. I was excited to put her down for a nap. I let her have a diaper for her nap and I think she was holding it because her diaper was really full when she woke up. The rest of the day was awful. Katelyn was waiting too long to tell me that she needed to use the potty. She would usually say potty while she was starting to pee. I would run her to the bathroom and by the time we got to the bathroom it was too late. Cleaning up her accidents was not fun and poor Daniel had to lie in his crib crying while I did it. At the end of the day I was exhausted and we had no success.

Day Two
In the morning I put Katelyn's panties on and she immediately got upset and cried for her diapers. She said potty and had barely wet her panties. I figured that she needed to use the potty but was trying to hold it. I put a new pair of panties on her and waited for her to give up. She got really upset and was screaming for her diapers. Part of me felt like maybe she wasn't ready for this but I didn't want to give up. Twenty minutes later she said potty and when we got to the bathroom she got mad. She was screaming and jumping up and down. She started to pee so I just sat her on the potty. She couldn't hold it anymore and peed in the toilet. I was so excited and she realized that it wasn't so bad. I kissed her and praised her. She got to put a sticker on her potty chart and I gave her a dum dum (I didn't give her candy every time she used the potty but I wanted to really reward her for her first time). I think she had been afraid to use the potty but once she got over her fear it was smooth sailing. We had no accidents the rest of the day and she even did her business on the potty before going to bed.

Day Three
No accidents except for doing some business in her panties.

Day Four
No accidents

Day Five
Woke up in the morning with a dry diaper and had no accidents all day!

Isn't this the most pitiful potty chart you have ever seen? I spent about five seconds making it. Kids love putting stickers on a chart even if the chart looks as sad as mine. The sticker system worked so well I might make a nice sticker chart for good behavior and jobs. We are so excited that Katelyn is potty trained and that it didn't take very long. Now that Katelyn is potty trained she seems so grown up. I'm so glad to not have to buy diapers for her anymore and I have a big box of pull-ups that I will be returning to Costco!

  1. HAHA!!! I was laughing so hard as I read this. I can only imagine what it'll be like in a year or so when I start the process. That is such a good idea to do a chart! I'll totally have to use that! I'm so glad that it didn't take very long:)

  2. Congrats! And yeah, doesn't matter what the chart looks like. We ended up with a paper covered in stickers. Looks awesome to them :) But as an aside, I like to keep pull-ups around for times when access to a potty might be hard- mostly travel related- long car/plane trips, sleeping in a different bed, etc. Though I'm not a pull up fan in general.

    1. Thanks for the advice Kirsten. It didn't take too long for me to realize that having some pull-ups around is a good idea, especially for going out in public or traveling. I hope you guys are doing well!
