Baby Daniel has Arrived!

Baby Daniel actually arrived over two weeks ago! He decided to surprise us and come early. Katelyn was born a day late and I really didn't think there was any chance of the baby coming early. My doctor had agreed to induce me at 39 weeks since Katelyn was such a big baby. Chris' parents had plane tickets to come visit us during the time I was going to be induced to help take care of Katelyn while I was in the hospital. Well, I started having some mild contractions on Tuesday night (March 6th, 38 weeks) as I was putting Katelyn to bed. I just hoped that it was false labor and that it would go away. I began picking up around the house and getting some things organized just in case. I was distracted by all the last minute nesting I was doing and the contractions were getting stronger. Right before I was going to go to bed, my water broke. At this point, it was 1:00 a.m. and we had to call a sister in our ward to come over to stay with Katelyn. I hated to have to call someone in the middle of the night.

By the time I got to the hospital I was dilated to 6 cm. It took awhile for me to get an epidural and I was dilated to 8 cm before I started getting some relief from the pain. Daniel was born at 8:17 in the morning and it only took me about 10 minutes to push him out! Of course there is plenty of unpleasantness involved in delivering a baby but overall things went really well. Daniel weighed 8 lbs 10 oz and measured at 20.75 inches. Daniel is a sweet and happy baby! We love having him in our family!

I think Katelyn and Daniel's baby pictures from the hospital look very similar. The first picture is of Daniel and the second picture is Katelyn.

Katelyn meeting Daniel for the first time. I was a little nervous about Katelyn seeing the baby because she is very attached to me and gets jealous easily. One of the nurses suggested that I should not hold the baby when Katelyn first walks into the room. I had the baby in the bassinet when Katelyn came in and I welcomed her with a hug. After a few minutes Katelyn walked over to the crib and said "baby." She was excited to see Daniel and even had her baby give Daniel a high five!

Katelyn climbed into my hospital bed with her baby! Cute!
